There’s nothing like the warmth and coziness of a fleece blanket, especially on those chilly nights. Here are instructions for making a no-sew fleece blanket from two pieces of fleece fabric. Fleece usually comes 60″ wide and you can cut it to whatever length you want. Keep in mind that your finished blanket will be about ten inches smaller than your cut fabric.

Let’s go!

*We adapted the instructions for this fleece blanket from this Instructables guide, but you can also follow this video guide:

Instructions
Hi, I’m Jen from Online Fabric Store. The fleece blanket I am going to be making involves no sewing making it quick and easy. So let’s get started. For this project, you will need: 2 yards of London Plaid Camel WinterFleece fabric, 2 yards of black fleece fabric, gingher scissors, and a clear ruler. Before lining up the fabric I trimmed off the selvage of both fleece pieces. First, line two fleeces together with the right side facing the outside. To determine the wrong side of this fleece, you’ll see that it’s more faded right on this side here, and this side is more crisp. Pin the two fleeces together to help stay in place, this is optional. Cut 5 by 5 inch squares out of the four corners measuring with the ruler. Cut 5 inch strips 1 inch wide along the four sides of the fleece. You can use the ruler to make sure the lines are straight. Tie the two pieces of opposite fringe together in a knot by looping it through and pushing upwards. Finish tying the fringe into knots on all four sides of the blanket, and you will have your no sew fleece blanket. The finished dimensions of this blanket will be the size of an adult throw blanket. Thanks for watching this OFS project!

How To Make A DIY Fleece Blanket Without Any Sewing

Step 1

Choose Your Fabric

You will need two pieces of fleece, cut to the same size. A good rule of thumb is to choose a print and a matching solid. Of course, you’re free to choose whatever you like, so if you want to mix it up, go for it!

Step 2

Line Up and Trim Your Fabric

Place your two fabric pieces together, one on top of the other, right sides out. Trim them so that they are the exact same size.

Step 3

Cut the Corners

Measure and cut a five-inch square from each of the four corners.

Step 4

Cut the Fringe

Cut about a 1″ fringe on all four sides of the fleece. You will be cutting in five inches to match the corners that you cut out. It may be helpful to use a yardstick or other long straight-edge to lay across the fabric to keep you from cutting too far and to keep all the cuts uniform in length. Cut through both pieces at the same time.

Step 5

Tie the Knots

Leaving the blanket on a flat surface, begin tying knots in the fringe. You will tie them just as you would tie a balloon. If there is another kind of knot that is easier for you or that you like better, you can use that as well. The key is to make the knots snug against the fabric, but not too tight. You want to make sure that it lies flat. Continue around all four edges until all the fringe is tied.

That’s it! You now have a cuddly, warm fleece blanket – no sewing required!

**This also works nicely for making pillows: Cut fabric to about twice the size of a pillow form, tie three sides, insert the form and finish tying the last side.
